Motivations and Frustrations

Motivations

Rachel was mainly motivated to come to university for the experience, she saw it as the next step in her life and has not really considered what comes next. She enjoys being busy and is involved in of lots of clubs and societies so is considering a union sabbatical role to improve the student experience for others. Her maternal grandmother is Indian, so she has a basic understanding of the Gujarati language and would like to learn more about this side of her heritage.

Frustrations

She lost her mother in a car accident when she was sixteen which sometimes means she struggles with her mental health. She is worried about how this might affect her in a job after she has finished her degree. Rachel also struggles with some of the maths elements in her course which makes her feel that she is not as clever as her peers.

Rachel's Stories

AA Journey

Rachel uses Attributes and Aspirations for Undergraduate the sections in bold refer to the units she takes.

Rachel was involved in a lot of clubs when she was at school and would like to be part of a community again now that she is at university. She has already joined the choir and in AA2 for UG – About Imperial looks at places she might find other ideas.

Being part of a choir is essentially a ‘singing team’ and WWO1 for UG – Working with Others explores what that means for collaboration in other areas. The choir is also part of Rachel’s network, which she would like to expand. SD2 - Building Relationships explores how she can start. The beginning of her network can be seen in the links above.

As her studies progress Rachel uses AA4 for UG – Time Management to maximise her physical and digital environments. She considers digital filing systems; shares the podcasts she listens to when concentrating on different things and learns about using Outlook to manage tasks and deadlines as well as checking her emails.

Rachel has moved out of halls. She met August at an IQ social and knows that they have always commuted to campus. In SD3 - Adapting to New Situations she asks for advice on managing her time better. Then in SD4 – Goal Setting Rachel wants to get a place on an internship over the summer break. This unit explores SMART goals and how they can be set to make new projects work well.
