Motivations and Frustrations

Motivations

Theo wants to start his own business. His BSc project focused on delivering products to market and he really enjoyed developing a research project to understand end users. He’s hoping to focus more in his master’s on the actual design and building processes to fill out his knowledge and enable him to grow an idea into his business.

Frustrations

Theo is concerned about returning to study after his two years out doing military service in Greece. He is also worried about how future employers will view this military service. He feels that he’s behind many of his peers in the UK. He is also frustrated that he does not have a concrete starting point on which to build his business.

Theo's AA Journey

Theo uses Attributes and Aspirations for Engineering the sections in bold refer to the units he takes.

In EE4 for ENG – Goal Setting Theo is starting work on ideas for his own business to start a Greek party planning and catering service. This unit explores SMART goals and how they can be set to make new projects work well.

However, he does not feel confident enough to start his business right away so he is looking for jobs that might help him develop. IAS3 for PG – Failure and Opportunity reflects on this and considers it in respect to his situation. Taking a job is not considered a failure, just a steppingstone. To help in his Career Planning in CP3 for ENG - Researching Your Career Options Theo explores other tools for researching the job market and uses MarketLine Advantage to search for companies that he might like to work for.
