As population growth, income increase and lifestyle urbanisation in middle-income countries lead to exponential growth in production, consumption and disposal of plastic products, there is an increasing need to manage, treat, recycle or repurpose as much material as possible. The latest engineering interventions are required to prevent the increasing quantity of discarded plastic to leak into the environment. This work develops suitable processes to maximise recovery and treat unrecyclable residual material according to local environmental and economic conditions.
