Computer simulations at the IITS Lab

The Intelligent Infrastructure and Transport Systems (IITS) Lab is our world-class facility for teaching and research on the future of infrastructure

IITS Lab specialized equipment

Modelling and analysis suite

Modelling suite

The IITS Lab is equipped with state-of-the-art computing equipment for modelling and simulation studies. Ten workstations are readily available for students and researchers to run some of the most sophisticated computer simulations that help us better understand complex interactions within and between various infrastructure systems.

Prototyping area

Prototyping area

The IITS Lab provides the materials and tools required for extensive prototyping of electronic devices, such as wireless sensor networks. Technical support is available to guide students throughout the development process.

Test chamber and control room

Test room

A separate test room in the IITS Lab can be used to conduct experiments, for example with heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment. The adjacient control room is used simulate the monitoring and control of infrastructure networks.

Satellite navigation equipment

GNSS research

The Imperial College Engineering Geomatics Group (ICEGG) uses the IITS lab for monitoring and development projects on global navigation satellite system (GNSS). Using highly-specialized GNSS euipment, researchers have made contributions to improving the precision and reliability of existing satellite navigation systems, for example with novel error models, data processing software and augmentations for various applications. Furthermore, the group is also invoveld in the development of the European Galileo satellite navigation system.
