Dear all,

It is with great sorrow that we learned of the death of The Queen yesterday. Throughout her extraordinary reign, The Queen has been a symbol of stability during periods of enormous change. I offer my deepest condolences to the Royal Family.

Imperial has close and historic ties with The Queen, who witnessed several important College milestones. We have reflected on her reign in our College news story.

There will now be a period of national mourning. This will mean some changes to College activities, and road closures and travel disruption are expected. Our research and teaching activities will continue during this time, with the exception of the day of the State Funeral (date to be confirmed), which will be a College closure day and our campus services and libraries will be closed. We will keep the Alerts page updated.

Exams scheduled for the day of the State Funeral will be rescheduled as a priority and we will update students on the arrangements for those as soon as we can. Exams on other days will proceed as planned. If you need to travel to our London campuses, please allow extra time for your journey given the expected large crowds in the capital.

While core events are continuing, most non-essential College events are being postponed. If you have any questions about campus events you may be planning, please contact Jane Neary or Anna Lusby who can provide advice.

We know that our community may be affected by this news. Support is available for students and staff via the Student Support Zone and Confidential Care. An online condolence book is available via the Royal Family website.

For those who are on our South Kensington Campus today, the Queen’s Tower bells are being rung muffled between 15.00 and 16.00 this afternoon as a mark of respect.

Best wishes,

Hugh
