Dear all,

We are developing a new strategy for Imperial and I want your input.

I said in yesterday’s In Conversation event how proud I am of Imperial’s community. Every day, your work makes the world healthier, smarter, safer, more prosperous and more sustainable.

But in a rapidly changing world, what is our ambition for the next two decades?

This is what our new strategy will answer. It will set Imperial’s long-term vision and ambition and serve as a framework to guide our major decisions and help us grasp new opportunities. It will inspire others to join us, partner with us and invest in us. I want our entire community to have a say on what it covers.

Yesterday's event started to bring this conversation to life, and I am grateful to everyone who shared their views and asked questions. Mary Ryan’s talk on research and enterprise completed our presentations on the strategy’s three core academic pillars. You can view yesterday’s session or catch up on Peter Haynes and Maggie Dallman’s presentations online.

The first phase of consultation runs until 31 March and will focus on the pillars of our academic mission – our student experience and our education; our research and enterprise; and our societal and global impact. Work is now well underway on key enablers for this strategy – including our people, our physical and digital infrastructure and finance – and important cross-cutting themes such as sustainability. There will be further updates and opportunities to contribute to these areas in the coming months.

Over the next weeks, please take some time to fill out the short survey. You can also sign up to attend our focus groups. And departments will be organising their own meetings and discussions.

There will be a further phase of consultation ahead of publication, including a more detailed look at what we need as an institution and a community in order to succeed.

Thank you in advance for taking part. I am excited by what the future holds for Imperial and what we can achieve together.

Best wishes,

Hugh
