To our Imperial community,

A year ago we came together to ask ourselves a question: “How do we maximise our potential as a force for good in the world?” The ambitious Strategy we have launched today, Science for Humanity, addresses that question. Our new Strategy draws on the ideas, energy and ingenuity of thousands of our staff, students, alumni and supporters who contributed to its creation.

Our ambition is to bolster our position among the world’s leading universities, to serve as a catalyst for positive change within the UK and to maximise our potential as a force for good in the world.

Our wide-ranging consultation stressed the importance of our strong disciplinary and departmental foundations while urging that we strive to build greater research scale, new pathways for scientific exploration, new avenues to impact and new access routes to funding.

While much in our new Strategy will feel new, our overarching aims will be familiar: enable talent, power research and amplify impact. It builds on Imperial’s unique combination of STEMB focus, excellence in education and research, strong interdisciplinary culture, appetite for innovation and entrepreneurship, and our London location. What also remains is our unwavering commitment to our people. Imperial’s brilliance is our staff, students and alumni.

I am indebted to all of you for your input into our new Strategy and look forward to working with you to bring it to life over the months and years ahead.

Best wishes,

Hugh
