Research
The Department of Aeronautics has an international reputation for excellence in research, a fact demonstrated by the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) which rated the research conducted in the field of Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering at Imperial College London as the best in the UK. This breadth and quality of the Department’s research portfolio feeds directly into the Postgraduate (MSc) Taught programmes which undergo constant revision and renewal to ensure that they reflect changes and developments in aeronautical engineering. The importance of research is emphasised to students in both MSc programmes who must carry-out a major individual research project.
Teaching
The Department is distinguished not only by its leading-edge research but by the quality of its teaching. The Department places an exceptionally strong emphasis on excellence in teaching and works closely with employers and industry to ensure that students graduate with the technical knowledge, practical expertise and transferrable skills so in demand by industry.
To support student learning, the facilities available to MSc students are first class as is the supervision provided to students in relation to aeronautics and other applications of fluid mechanics and structural analysis, composite materials, design optimization and control.
