A wide range of training and continued professional development is available for supervisors of doctoral students at Imperial. Supervisors are required to undertake mandatory training as detailed in the Supervisor CPD Framework [Pdf].

Mandatory supervisor training and CPD for Main and Co- Supervisors

• From April 2022, new doctoral supervisors at Imperial are required to complete Fundamentals of supervising PhD students. This new online course (approximately 2 hours in length) comprises four mini-modules covering: the role of Main and Co-Supervisors; effective student-supervisor partnerships; the PhD timeline, and research culture.
• All Main and Co-supervisors of doctoral students are required to attend their departmental Focus on Best Practice in Supervision workshop every six years.  Departments will email supervisors to advise when this is due.
