Project title: The pathological glial-neuron interactions and tau pathology in Alzheimer’s disease
Supervisor(s): Professor Paul Matthews, Dr Javier Alegre Abarrategui
Location: Level 7, Sir Michael Uren Hub, White City Campus, 86 Wood Lane, W12 0BZ
About Me:
I am a PhD student in Paul Matthews' lab in the Department of Brain Sciences. My journey in research began as a research assistant in Prof. Nancy Ip’s lab at HKUST, where I studied Alzheimer’s disease for three years, including a master’s project examining IL-33's effects on tau pathology across multiple mouse models of AD. In 2021, I joined the Paul Matthews lab as a research technician to work on the Multi-omics Atlas Project, an opportunity that brought me from Hong Kong to London. My ongoing passion for Alzheimer’s research continues to drive my PhD studies today.
Qualifications
2013 – 2017: BSc in Biological Science, Hong Kong University of Science and technology
2019 – 2021: MSc in Biotechnology, Hong Kong University of Science and technology
Research Interests
My research focuses on the impact of TREM2 risk variants on glial-neuron interactions and tau pathology in Alzheimer’s disease, utilizing imaging mass cytometry and proteomics in human post-mortem tissues. I aim to elucidate the relationship between TREM2 risk variants, tau pathology characteristics, and kinase activity. I am particularly interested in the glial-tauopathy interplay and the role of neuroimmune interactions in neurodegenerative disease progression.
