Dear colleagues,

As we prepare for Easter closure, I want to thank you again for making this term such a productive one.

Together, we have taken an important step with the launch of our new Strategy – Science for Humanity – which sets out our vision for how Imperial will maximise its potential as a force for good.

Your contribution to this process has been essential. Thanks to those who joined yesterday’s In conversation with the President all staff event – I am grateful for the important questions you raised. We will use future events to discuss all elements of the strategy in greater detail.

Yesterday, we focused on our plan to establish the Imperial Institute of Extended Learning (working title). The Institute aims to address increasing market demand for high-end short courses that future proof careers, industries and other knowledge organisations by providing the advanced STEMB capabilities and values-driven leadership needed to thrive in a tech-enabled world.

My thanks to Leila Guerra for sharing insights into the new Institute, and also to Professor Miriam Moffat for moderating your questions. You can watch the recording of the event and we will provide answers to questions we did not have time to address in the Staff Briefing newsletter after Easter.

There has been much else to celebrate this term. A few highlights for me were the launch of our major new research centre on Singapore’s CREATE Campus; the opening of new buildings for the School of Public Health and the MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences on our White City-Hammersmith Campus; and of course, the many breakthroughs, discoveries and technologies forged by you here at Imperial that will change the world for the better.

In our community, we heard inspiring stories through Women at Imperial Week, Sustainability Fortnight and LGBTQIA+ History Month.

Thank you for your extraordinary efforts in making all this happen.

Next term will bring more opportunities to discuss and shape our future. The upcoming 2024 Staff Survey will provide a chance to share your thoughts on working at Imperial, and your ideas for where we could do better.

I hope that you are able to use the upcoming break to recharge, enjoy time away from work, and reflect on a memorable start to the year.
