Introduction

The United Nation Sustainable Development Goals are a set of urgent and ambitious environmental, societal and economic challenges that require global, national and institutional responses. This includes challenges such as responding to climate change, reversing biodiversity loss, ensuring good health, providing quality education, and ensuring economic growth through the providing of decent work. We believe that our students should learn that about challenges and how to actively tackle them. Our education programmes should allow all students to develop competences and skills so that they can use their science to make a positive difference in the world.

Proposal

The Education for Sustainability (E4S) Task and Finish group has been set up to consider how and to what extent sustainability could be taught effectively at Imperial. Our initial proposals are presented in a Green Paper, which sets out the initiatives we feel are necessary to integrate education for sustainability deeply into our education programmes.

The purpose of this consultation is to gather a wide range of opinions on the Green Paper. This feedback will be crucial in drafting a White Paper that will set out specific policies for implementing sustainability education at Imperial. This document will be used to seek formal approval to begin this initiative.

Ask

We invite you to respond to the Green Paper linked above using our Qualtrics survey or by email to Mike Tennant. The closing date for responses is Thursday 20 June 2024.
