Dr Gbemi Oluleye (Programme Director)
Gbemi is a Lecturer at the Grantham Institute, and a member of the Sargent Centre for Process Systems Engineering. She leads a research group/activity on Green Industrial Interventions (GII-Lab). Gbemi's interdisciplinary research experience and expertise at the interface of engineering, policy and economics places her in the best position to address induced adoption and diffusion of clean innovations for climate change mitigation. Gbemi received a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria; MSc in Advanced Chemical Process Design at the University of Manchester and a PhD in Process Integration from the University of Manchester. She has over 15 years combined experience in academia and industry.
Dr Semra Bakkaloglu (Programme Facilitator)
Semra is a Research Associate in the Chemical Engineering Department. Semra’s research expertise lies at the intersection of environmental and chemical engineering. She specialises in environmental process engineering, life cycle sustainability assessment (LCSA), energy systems modelling, and the quantification, characterisation and mitigation of methane and hydrogen emissions. She has over 10 years of combined experience in academia, industry, and consultancy.
Teaching faculty:
Alaa is a Research Fellow in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial. His research focuses on Integrated Assessment Models (IAMs), their multidisciplinary applications, and data analytics to explore climate change mitigation strategies. In addition to his higher education experience, Alaa has spent time working for the IPCC and the UN Environment Programme.
Alyssa is the Director of Innovation at the Grantham Institute and Director of Undaunted, Imperial’s climate change innovation hub run in partnership with the Royal Institution. Alyssa was previously the Grantham Institute's Director of Policy and Translation and has advised on many climate-related boards and committees including NERC's Strategic Programme Advisory Committee (SPAG) and the Climate Markets Investments Association (CMIA).
Bonnie is a Reader in the Department of Life Sciences at Imperial. Her research group, The Waring Ecology Lab, investigates how the ecology of plant and soil microbial communities influences the carbon cycle and its feedbacks on climate change. They also explore ways to maximise the capacity of ecosystems - especially forests - to absorb greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.
Dr Caterina Brandmayr
Caterina is Director of Policy and Translation at the Grantham Institute. Caterina is responsible for making the link between the Institute’s academic work and policy-makers, businesses, NGOs and other stakeholders. Her work involves engaging with a wide range of organisations and producing briefing papers, events and bespoke engagements. Previously, Caterina worked for independent think tank, Green Alliance.
Eduardo is Professor of Marketing at Imperial College Business School. His current research agenda focuses on how people feel, think, and make decisions in areas related to sustainability, and health. He was previously a Professor in Consumer Psychology at FGV EBAPE in Brazil and as Associate Professor of Marketing at University of California, Berkeley.
Emily is a Research Associate in Climate Damage Attribution at the Grantham Institute. She works on determining the share of additional human impacts that occur due to climate change during extreme weather events such as heatwaves and storms. Emily worked for 6.5 years at the climate science and policy institute Climate Analytics, where she conducted qualitative and quantitative research on the topics of adaptation, loss and damage and climate change impacts and engaged in various activities at the science- policy interface.
Marc is Reader in Transport and the Environment in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial. Marc's research focuses on evaluating and reducing the effect of transport activity on climate change and air pollution, with particular attention to understanding sources of greenhouse gases (GHGs) and pollutant emissions, especially nanoparticles. Marc is currently the General Secretary of the UK and Ireland Aerosol Society. He is also a member of the Greener by Design Committee at the Royal Aeronautical Society.
Michael is Executive Director and Professor of Practice at the Centre for Climate Finance and Investment at Imperial College Business School. Michael is a senior sustainable finance professional with 30 years experience in sustainable finance, corporate and infrastructure credit analysis, project finance, structured finance and carbon markets. He is a Certified Credit Analyst (S&P/NYU), holds an Executive MBA (Bayes Business School) and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Carbon Finance & Analytics (London Business School).
Onesmus is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Environmental Policy at Imperial. He has combined academic and industrial experience in the application of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to supply chains for biofuels, bioenergy and biorefineries to both UK and EU policy requirements. He is currently working as a technical lead on BEIS funded 2050 International Calculator program. He has conducted feasibility studies for renewable energy installations for various clients in the UK and has substantial international experience in managing projects for clients in the USA, Kenya and South America.
Paulo is a Senior Lecturer in Climate Science in the Department of Physics at Imperial. His expertise is in understanding global climate variability and change. Paulo is a contributor to Greta Thunberg's The Climate Book, and his past research has been covered by international media outlets including the Washington Post, Scientific American and Carbon Brief.
Phil works at CABI, an international, not-for-profit organisation that provides information and applies scientific expertise to solve problems in agriculture and the environment. He was a farmer in Kent for sixteen years growing both GMOs and organic produce immediately prior to working for CABI. Prior to being a farmer, he worked in academic circles mostly in universities studying the molecular biology of plant/ pathogen interactions.
Shefali is a Visiting Researcher at Imperial College Business School. Her research interests lie in energy and environmental economics and policy. Her current research focuses on understanding the drivers of energy demand in the residential, industrial and agricultural sectors and on evaluating the design and impact of climate policies.
