Welcome to the Design Engineering Summer School!
This Summer School offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into creativity, innovation, and design through a combination of inspiring lectures and hands-on workshops. You will explore evolutionary, revolutionary, and experimental methods for design-led innovation, with modules covering cutting-edge topics such as data-centric design, AI in immersive audio design, and smart cities. These subjects are designed to complement your engineering background and inspire new approaches to innovation.
A key focus of the programme is fostering the Design Engineering mindset. This will involve an exploration of diverse design processes, their practical advantages and limitations, and the development of integrated and comprehensive design strategies. Through this approach, you will gain a deeper understanding of how Design Engineering can be a powerful tool for solving complex challenges.
The Summer School also emphasises real-world application. You will participate in engaging team-based prototyping activities that bridge the gap between theoretical planning and practical execution. These activities are designed to enhance your grasp of design methods while providing you with tangible experience in transforming concepts into prototypes.
You will also learn about the latest advancements in user-centric design research, leadership, and enterprise, with a particular focus on how innovators interact with and shape evolving systems. Additionally, the value of interactive design practices will be examined through relevant domains such as designing for healthy ageing.
As a future innovator, you will be encouraged to take a proactive role in leading change rather than merely responding to it. Throughout the programme, you will be challenged to consider the long-term impact of your design activities and to develop strategies for advancing innovation research and design engineering.
