The Digital Tools Sub-Group is a sub-group of the Teaching & Learning Product Board. It consists of edtech experts representing each area of college and is co-chaired by the Teaching and Learning Product Owner and the Director of the FoNS EdTech Lab. Alongside other sub-groups it makes recommendations and examines issues in greater detail, on behalf of the Product Board.  

The sub-group provides a forum for developing strategy and policy in the area of digital tools used for learning and teaching and provides input on operational issues such as product line roadmaps and investment priorities. The sub-group is an advisory forum and does not have an operational remit.  

Terms of Reference 

  • To advise the Teaching & Learning Product Board on matters of strategy, policy and resource allocation for the planning, deployment, development, evaluation, and sustainability of digital tools used for learning and teaching, including virtual learning environments/online platforms and related edtech processes (e.g. integrations) and technologies (e.g. tools to support asynchronous/synchronous discussion, in-classroom response gathering, teaching and learning of coding, team-based learning activities, e-portfolios/e-lab notebooks, peer review, peer assessment, and video capture/delivery). 
  • To make recommendations regarding the College’s Digital Learning Strategy, in line with the overarching aims of the College’s Learning and Teaching Strategy.
  • To inform, align and further develop college’s use of digital tools, based on the experience and evidence of college users, in line with the College’s Learning and Teaching Strategy, Digital Learning Strategy and ICT Technology Principles.
  • To audit, advise and make recommendations around procurement and account management of digital tool supplier contracts.
  • To oversee clearly defined pilot programmes for potential new digital tools or processes, including detailed evaluation, and to make recommendations to the Product Board of the associated benefits and risks and a business case for adoption. 
  • To provide input into Teaching & Learning product line roadmaps and investment priorities.
  • To enable informed communication with Academic, Professional and Technical Staff around existing and future needs and capabilities of digital tools and processes.
  • To work and consult with ICT Technology Office strategic principles around Architecture, Data and Design to ensure digital tools are aligned with these principles.
