BioRender is a web-based program that helps you create scientific figures up to 50x faster than traditional tools. The tool combines a library of over 50,000 scientifically accurate, expert-validated life science icons and templates with intuitive drag-and-drop functionality. The following is a brief overview of the differences between the free and paid plans. For a full list of features and benefits associated with each plan, please see BioRender’s pricing page.

BioRender Basic (free plan)

You can create up to five illustrations for educational purposes. This includes things like posters, lecture slides, and lab meetings.

BioRender Premium

We offer premium plans for individuals and teams in both academia and industry. In general, premium users unlock the following additional features and benefits:

  • Unlimited illustrations
  • High-resolution export (png, jpg, pdf)
  • Transparent background with no watermark
  • Permission to publish in journals
  • Custom icon requests
  • Access to all icons and templates
  • Labs and Teams unlock additional benefits, like consolidated billing.
  • The cost of BioRender is currently $171.40 per annum. 

The license is valid from 15 October – 14 October and any purchases made during the license term will be charged at a pro rata rate.

Under section 1(e) you will find a list of ‘Restrictions’ on your user-account.

These include but are not limited to the following:

  •     You must not share access to Services offered by BioRender among more than one Permitted User (as defined below) using a single User-Account.
  •     You must not publish Completed Graphics that include BioRender Content in any publication if you are not cited as the first or co-first author of the publication due to copyright ownership of the publication being attributed to the first or co-first author.
  •     You may assign a certain number of Seats to User-Accounts held by your students, faculty members, research assistants, employees or contractors (referred to herein as “Permitted Users”) through Lab, Team, Institution or Enterprise Paid BioRender Plans.
