Department of Materials (1986 - )

The Department of Materials at Imperial College London can trace its origins to the metallurgy course at the Government School of Mines founded in 1851. As such it is the oldest materials department in the United Kingdom. Its immediate predecessor was the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Science (1970-1986).
