AB - Remote sensing has demonstrated success in various environmental applications and is considered attractive as it offers cheap and effective wide area monitoring. Recent research efforts, and particularly the development of an unsupervised image processing and indirect detection methodology by the authors, have demonstrated the potential of remote sensing techniques for monitoring CO2 storage sites. This paper describes the application of the methodology at a natural analogue study site around the lake Laacher in Germany using airborne optical remote sensing datasets. The results demonstrate the robustness of the methodology as an indirect technique for CO2 leakage detection.
