Welcome to Gabor

Gabor Hall is part of Eastside Halls, located within Prince's Gardens, just across the road from the main South Kensington campus. Gabor was named after Dennis Gabor, a Hungarian-British electrical engineer and physicist who fled to the UK from Nazi Germany in 1933 and later became the inventor of holography, for which he received the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1971. Gabor joined Imperial College in 1948 and remained here until his retirement in 1967.

Hello, I’m Amy, a sub-warden in Gabor this year. I am a second year PhD student in mechanical engineering researching the rapid characterisation of high temperature mechanical properties of 3D printed titanium alloys.

In my free time, I enjoy being active – you might see me running, cycling or playing tennis at Hyde Park! I also love visiting the countryside on the weekends. I started my undergraduate degree at Imperial in 2019 and so I’ve been in London for 5 years now – don’t hesitate to have a chat or ask me any questions!
