Course overview
Drawing on our world-class marketing faculty and thought-leaders in strategy, entrepreneurship and technology, MSc Strategic Marketing will give you a unique Imperial College view of marketing — one where marketing fundamentals intersect with the latest in technology and innovation, and where marketing science is blended with data-driven decision making for business.
Core modules will give you a broad commercial understanding as a foundation for your future career, and then equip you with practical tools for the application of marketing strategies. You will get the opportunity to deep dive into concepts and skills through elective modules, allowing you to shape your learning experience to suit your career goals.
Expert consultants from Imperial College Business School Careers will offer you the very best support, advice and guidance that is tailored to your own specific career needs. You will have access to highly relevant and unlimited one-to-one support, as well as regular workshops and networking opportunities with employers who regularly visit our campus.
You also have the option to complete a four-six month work placement (internship) as part of your programme, extending the programme to 16 months and graduating with 120 ECTS. Please note that additional tuition fees apply.

Before the programme begins you will be expected to complete online pre-study modules which are delivered through The Hub, Imperial College Business School’s virtual learning environment.
These modules will be available to students who have accepted an offer of admission from July onwards, and are designed to give you a basic knowledge of areas which will be covered by the programme throughout the academic year.
The core modules build on previous experience while introducing new and challenging disciplines. Modules in the Autumn term will give you a broad commercial understanding as a foundation for the focused study of marketing. Modules taken in the Spring term will equip you with practical tools for the application of marketing strategies.

In the summer, you will get the chance to integrate and apply your knowledge in the Entrepreneurial Strategy module and Applied Strategic Marketing report.
You will also have the opportunity to gain practical experience by completing a Strategic Marketing Consulting Project, Work Placement or Case Study.
Alternatively, you can opt to study the Individual Research Project in lieu of these projects.
The Applied Strategic Marketing Report is a 5,000-word unsupervised report on a relevant strategic marketing topic. You will be able to choose from a number of report titles that reflect marketing issues and trends discussed throughout the programme.
Develop your managerial potential by applying problem-solving techniques to complex and challenging marketing problems. The emphasis of this module is on developing skills in addressing a real marketing case study, drawing on the knowledge and skills achieved in the entire programme.
You will analyse a company or brand of their choice using the tools, concepts and theories covered in the MSc modules. This requires identifying a range of marketing issues and analysing them using relevant data and theory.
Act in a consulting capacity, applying your knowledge developed throughout the programme to the solution of a real business issue. You will work with a corporate sponsor who will present a challenge facing their business and they will provide feedback on your proposed solutions.
Apply, integrate, and extend your entire knowledge and skills gained from all previous modules by developing a detailed go-to-market strategy for a new offering (product and/or service) of your choice.
Students wishing to study a doctoral programme after this programme may undertake a research project, with approval from the Academic Director. This constitutes a small piece of research, with an analytical focus, that presents a major opportunity for you to revise and integrate what you have learned on the MSc programme so far. It will also allow you to demonstrate that you can apply your theoretical knowledge to a real-world context.
Develop your managerial potential by applying problem solving techniques to a challenging business situation in which you are fully immersed. The focus is on developing your skills in managing real business and executing marketing tasks in one specific business context, drawing on the knowledge and skills achieved in other modules of the MSc Strategic Marketing programme. The module will give you the opportunity to experience and operate in a real-world corporate situation.
If you opt to take the Work Placement module you will need to find your own placement. The work placement should be for one month or longer and can be held at a UK-based or international company or organisation.
If you wish to take a longer (four-six month) internship as part of your programme, you can take an extended work placement with the approval of the Academic Director.
This is particularly relevant for (but not exclusive to) internships in France, Germany, and other European countries that require students to have student status for the duration of their internships. Please note that additional tuition fees apply.
