Eligibility criteria
To apply for an ASEAN - UK SAGE: Women in STEM Scholarship, you must:- Be or identify as a woman
- Be a passport holder and permanent resident of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, or Timor-Leste
- Be available to commence your studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September/October 2024
- Have submitted an application to study at Imperial College London before your scholarship application can be considered and have received an offer to study for one of the eligible programmes by 11:59pm (UK local time) on Friday 5th April
- Have completed your degree or have all components of your degree that will enable you to gain entry onto a postgraduate programme at Imperial College London in September/October 2024. Applicants must meet the academic entry requirement for admissions before the start of the UK academic year in September/October 2024
- Have not previously studied at degree level or higher in the UK or lived recently in the UK. Distance learning at a UK university or study at a UK branch campus in another country will also be considered as studying in the UK
- Meet the English language requirement for your programme at Imperial College London. Applicants who are awarded this scholarship will be required to have met College English entry requirements (Pre-sessional English courses are not supported by this programme) by 30 June 2024
- Demonstrate a case for financial support / socio-economic need
- Not be in receipt of financial support or funding towards your study programme in the UK from any other source and not be able to privately fund your studies
- Return to the country of your citizenship for a minimum of two years after your course/scholarship has finished
- Demonstrate active in the field with work experience or with a proven interest in the programme area you are applying for
- Demonstrate that you are willing to contribute in the future to capacity-building and socio-economic advancement through the benefits achieved after graduating from Imperial College London and returning your home country
- Demonstrate in your application a plan and passion to engage other women and girls in STEM from your home country
- Agree to maintain contact with the British Council and act as an ambassador for the UK and engage with activities as part of an ASEAN - UK SAGE: Women in STEM Scholarship alumnus during and after your study in the UK. Any involvement in these activities during your study in the UK will take up no more than five hours per term

Preference should be given to candidates who have not had any international exposure prior to this scheme
If any of the following points are applicable to you, you are not eligible for an ASEAN - UK SAGE: Women in STEM Scholarship:
- You hold dual British Citizenship
- Are an employee, a former employee, or relative of an employee of His Majesty’s Government (including but not limited to: British Embassies/High Commissions; the Department for Business and Trade (DBT the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT); Department for International Trade; the Ministry of Defence; and the Home Office)
- Are an employee, or former employee, or relative of an employee of the British Council Scholarship for Women in STEM – eligible countries
- Are currently in receipt of financial support or funding towards your studies in the UK from any other source
- Have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK Government-funded scholarship or a UK institutional scholarship/financial bursary, as well as those who privately funded their studies

For the Section 2 Supporting Statement, please clearly state that you are a passport holder and permanent resident of one of the eligible scholarship countries and that you are applying to the ASEAN-UK SAGE: Women in STEM Scholarship. There is no need to provide any further information in this section.

Additional information
Value of awardsEach scholarship covers full tuition fees, an annual stipend of £19,824, and a return economy-class flight from home country to UK. It also covers other related costs including an accepted English language proficiency test exam fee* (*only if an English language test is required as part of the offer of admissions), visa application and Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) surcharge.
Award holders will be refunded the cost of an English language proficiency test exam fee if eligible, visa application and IHS surcharge on receipt of receipts and accompanying documentation once they enrol on the course and provide their UK bank details.
The Student Financial Support Office team at Imperial College London will arrange the booking of flights to the UK for award holders. Award holders will be provided of the process to book the flight once awards have been allocated.
Outcome of awards
The successful candidates will be notified by email no later than 28 June 2024. If you have not heard from us by this date, please assume you have been unsuccessful in your application.
