Eligibility criteria

The President's PhD Scholarship offers 50 fully funded PhD places at Imperial College London, designed for high-achieving candidates eager to pursue cutting-edge research. Scholars have the flexibility to choose their own research project under the guidance of a leading supervisor, while also engaging in cohort-building activities with fellow President's PhD Scholars. Open to candidates worldwide, this prestigious scholarship seeks individuals with exceptional academic records and strong research potential, with no restrictions on nationality.

 

The award covers full tuition fees, provides an annual stipend for 3.5 years (£25,224 in 2024-25) and a £2,000 consumables budget

 

Eligibility

 

To be considered for this scholarship, candidates must:

 

  • Have been assessed as Home or Overseas fee status.
  • Apply to undertake a PhD course
  • Have a first-class undergraduate/ integrated Master’s degree, or a distinction in a standalone Master’s qualification.

Please note: This scholarship is not available to continuing students.

Application process

There is no separate application form for the President's PhD Scholarships. However, interested candidates are encouraged to notify their department of their desire to be considered for this award.

 

Nomination

 

You should submit your application for admission to study at Imperial through our online admissions system and your department will put you forward for the scholarship based on academic merit and potential.

 

Supervisor

 

You must have made contact with a supervisor in an academic department at Imperial College London who has agreed to supervise your research project.

Additional information

Outcome of Award

 

Successful candidates will receive written confirmation of their scholarship. Any offer of a PhD place will be conditional on the candidate receiving the predicted qualifications.

 

This award is for students starting in the academic year 2025-26 and cannot be deferred. All scholarships are awarded subject to students accepting award Terms and Conditions.
