Eligibility criteria

Imperial College London is pleased to announce The Satinder Kaur and Dr Narinder Singh Kapany Scholarship for the 2025/26 academic year. 

Established in 2024, this scholarship was named in honour of Imperial alumnus Dr Narinder Singh-Kapany and his wife Mrs Satinder Kaur. Dr Singh-Kapany was a noted scientist and renowned pioneer in the field of optics. He and his wife valued education, and their philanthropy was often dedicated to supporting the Sikh population. The Satinder Kaur and Dr Narinder Singh Kapany Scholarship aims to support financially disadvantaged, Sikh students undertaking a master's (MSc) course of study within the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Natural Sciences or Business School.

This scholarship is available for Home fee paying students who have an offer to study a master's degree course within the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Natural Sciences or Business School, beginning in Autumn 2025.

Applicants shall be ranked on the following basis:

  • Academic merit (using your College application)
  • Financial need 
In addition, you must identify as being a member of the Sikh community. 

To apply for this scholarship, applicants need to complete the application form and have an offer to study an eligible programme by 11:59 pm (UK local time), Thursday 1st May 2025.

 

Applicants who meet the above conditions will be ranked based on the criteria above. The successful candidates shall be notified by 31st July 2025.

Please note: This scholarship is not available to continuing students.

Application process

Stage 1: Apply for a master's (MSc) course of study within the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Natural Sciences or Business School at Imperial College London

You must submit an application for a master's degree through the standard College application procedure as soon as possible and have an offer of admission by the deadline of 11:59 pm (UK local time), Thursday 1st May 2025.

Some departments have application rounds for the postgraduate taught courses, with fixed application dates throughout the year. Therefore, you may be required to submit an application for admission by March 2025 in order to get a decision by the scholarship deadline of Thursday 1st May 2025. Application fee:

Stage 2: Complete the scholarship application form.

Applicants are required to complete the scholarship application form. Applicants will be assessed on academic merit or potential through the standard admission process. Through the scholarship application form, applicants will be required to successfully demonstrate that they come from a financially disadvantaged background and this will be assessed through the information provided on the scholarship application.

By “financially disadvantaged background”, we mean applicants who would not be able to afford to study in the UK due to for financial reasons and/or groups facing financial barriers due to their disadvantaged background (issues to consider in relation to these financial reasons and barriers could include but are not limited to: disability or refugee status, membership of a marginalised community, having overcome negative cultural expectations, gender/sexual discrimination, experience of poverty or of education in extreme low-resource settings, and/or a combination of these and other factors).

Value and Number of Awards

This scholarship is awarding a maintenance grant of £19,580 to one successful applicant.

Outcome of Award

The successful candidate will be notified by email no later than 31st July 2025.  If you have not heard from us by this date, please assume you have been unsuccessful in your application. 

The successful scholar may be expected to meet informally with the donors on occasions, participate in events surrounding this scholarship, or be required to submit a short statement of progress that will be shared with the donors.

This award is for students starting in the academic year 2025-26 and cannot be deferred. All scholarships are awarded subject to students accepting award Terms and Conditions.
