Eligibility criteria

The Val O'Donoghue Scholarship honours the legacy of Val O'Donoghue, a respected electronics engineer, entrepreneur, and technical author with a longstanding connection to Imperial College. Established through the generous support of his widow, Mrs. Maria O'Donoghue, this scholarship supports outstanding students pursuing studies in electronics, empowering them to continue Val’s commitment to innovation and excellence in engineering.

 

The award covers full home fees and provides an annual stipend for 4 years equal to the UKRI rate for London (£21,237 in 2024-25)

 

Eligibility

 

To be considered for this scholarship, candidates must:

 

  • Have been assessed Home or of Irish Nationality fee status
  • Apply to undertake research in the Faculty of Natural Sciences
  • Have submitted a complete PhD application for 2025-26 entry by 23:59 (UK local time) on 3 February 2025

Please note: This scholarship is not available to continuing students.

Application process

To apply for the Val O'Donoghue Scholarship (Natural Sciences), you need to:

 

  1. Apply for an eligible course – see the list in the Eligibility Criteria section.
  2. Create an online account and submit your application through our application portal – use our guide to How to apply for additional help.
  3. Receive an offer of a place for 2024 entry by the scholarship deadline of 23:59 (UK local time) on 3 February 2025.
  4. Firmly accept the offer by the relevant deadline.
  5. Complete our Scholarship application form by the deadline of 23:59 (UK local time) on 3 February 2025.

Additional information

Outcome of Award: The successful candidates will be notified by email no later than 30 April 2025. If you have not heard from us by this date, please assume you have been unsuccessful in your application.

 

This award is for students starting in the academic year 2025-26 and cannot be deferred. All scholarships are awarded subject to students accepting award Terms and Conditions.
