Eligibility criteria
The Women in STEM Scholarships provide support for women studying towards a one-year Master’s degree at Imperial College London commencing in autumn 2025-26
In partnership with the British Council, Imperial College London is offering 5 full scholarships for women who are a passport holder and permanent resident of Brazil.
Eligibility criteria
To apply for a Women in STEM Scholarship, you must:
- Be or identify as a woman
- Be a passport holder and permanent resident of Brazil
- Be available to commence your studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in the Autumn 2025-26
- Have submitted an application to study at Imperial College London before your scholarship application can be considered and have received an offer to study for one of the eligible courses by 5 pm (UK local time) on Thursday, 10 April 2025.
- Have completed your degree or have all components of your degree that will enable you to gain entry onto a postgraduate programme at Imperial College London in September/October 2025. Applicants must meet the academic entry requirement for admissions before the start of the UK academic year in September/October 2025
- Have not previously studied at degree level or higher in the UK or lived recently in the UK. Distance learning at a UK university or study at a UK branch campus in another country will also be considered as studying in the UK
- Meet the English language requirement for your programme at Imperial College London. Applicants who are awarded this scholarship will be required to have met College English entry requirements (Pre-sessional English courses are not supported by this programme) by 30 June 2025
- Demonstrate a case for financial support / socio-economic need
- Not be in receipt of financial support or funding towards your study programme in the UK from any other source and not be able to privately fund your studies
- Return to the country of your citizenship for a minimum of two years after your course/scholarship has finished
- Demonstrate active in the field with work experience or with a proven interest in the programme area you are applying for
Demonstrate that you are willing to contribute in the future to capacity-building and socio-economic advancement through the benefits achieved after graduating from Imperial College London and returning your home country
- Demonstrate in your application a plan and passion to engage other women and girls in STEM from your home country
- Agree to maintain contact with the British Council and act as an ambassador for the UK and engage with activities as part of an Women in STEM Scholarship alumnus during and after your study in the UK. Any involvement in these activities during your study in the UK will take up no more than five hours per term
Additional Eligibility Criteria
- Preference should be given to candidates who have not had any international exposure prior to this scheme. International experience will also include any third country other than the UK
- If any of the following points are applicable to you, you are not eligible for the Women in STEM Scholarship:
- You hold dual British Citizenship
- Are an employee, a former employee, or relative (*) of an employee of His Majesty’s Government (including but not limited to: British Embassies/High Commissions; the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), the Department for Energy Security and Net, Department for International Trade; the Ministry of Defence; and the Home Office)
- Are an employee, or former employee or relative (*) of an employee of the British Council Scholarship for Women in STEM – eligible countries
- Are currently in receipt of financial support or funding towards your studies in the UK from any other source
- Have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK Government-funded scholarship or a UK institutional scholarship/financial bursary, as well as those who privately funded their studies
(*) Relatives are defined as parents or stepparents, siblings or stepsiblings, children or stepchildren, spouse, civil partner, or unmarried partner (where the couple have been in a relationship akin to marriage or civil partnership for at least two years).

Application process
- Step 1: Apply for a one-year full-time eligible Master's course at Imperial College London.
IMPORTANT:
- You must have applied online through My Imperial before applying for the Women in STEM Scholarships. In order to be eligible for this scholarship, you must hold an offer of admissions by Thursday, 10 April 2025. You must ensure you have selected "Brazil" in section "Nationality", as either primary nationality or secondary nationality and "Brazil" in section "Residency" as your country of permanent residence.
- Some departments have application rounds for the postgraduate taught courses, with fixed application dates throughout the year. Some departments require you to apply by January 2025 to get a decision by March 2025. Please check carefully the Deadlines page for further information

Guidance on completing the Application Fee Waiver Request Form: For the Section 2 Supporting Statement, please clearly state that you are a passport holder and permanent resident of Brazil and that you are applying to the Women in STEM Scholarship. There is no need to provide any further information in this section.

Value of awards
There are five scholarships. Each scholarship covers full tuition fees, an annual stipend of £25,224, and a return economy-class flight from home country to UK. It also covers other related costs including an accepted English language proficiency test exam fee* (*only if an English language test is required as part of the offer of admissions), visa application and Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) surcharge.
Award holders will be refunded the cost of an English language proficiency test exam fee if eligible, visa application and IHS surcharge on receipt of receipts and accompanying documentation once they enrol on the course and provide their UK bank details.
The Student Financial Support Office team at Imperial College London will arrange the booking of flights to the UK for award holders. Award holders will be provided of the process to book the flight once awards have been allocated.
Outcome of awards
The successful candidates will be notified by email no later than 27 June 2025. If you have not heard from us by this date, please assume you have been unsuccessful in your application.
