Study an innovative, industry-focused course
From world-leading, creative product development to revolutionary cleantech innovation, our courses cater to the dynamic needs of the industry. While we continue to offer our flagship double Master’s course, Innovation Design Engineering (IDE), we’ve also launched four innovative Master’s courses showcasing our commitment to cutting-edge education and research. You can choose from the following courses:
- Design Engineering (MSc) - equips graduates of engineering or related fields with the skills and knowledge necessary to apply design methods, systems thinking, and entrepreneurship elements to innovative solutions.
- Design with Behaviour Science (MSc) - explores how to incorporate theory, research, and practices in behaviour science into the design of innovative, human-centred products, experiences and interventions.
- Design Engineering Research (MRes) - presents a compilation of taught modules that pave the way for the execution of a substantial research project.
- Cleantech Innovation (MSc) - jointly offered with Grantham Institute – Climate Change and the Environment is designed to provide aspiring climate entrepreneurs with the skills and knowledge necessary to create revolutionary cleantech innovation.
- Innovation Design Engineering (MA/MSc) - a cutting-edge, double Master's delivered collaboratively between the Royal College of Art (RCA) and the Dyson School of Design Engineering. This course awards a dual degree — an MA from RCA and an MSc from Imperial College London. It focuses on experimentation, design, engineering and entrepreneurial ventures, with a strong emphasis on prototyping and validating innovative solutions.

Get set for a fulfilling career
The Dyson School of Design Engineering is committed to nurturing engineers who excel at designing for the real world. There are many opportunities to develop the skills and expertise required to achieve both your academic and professional goals.
As a student, you'll be encouraged to try your ideas out in ‘Dragon’s Den’ style contests like our annual Venture Catalyst Challenge, when students get to pitch their designs to industry-leading judges. This environment breeds success - two graduates who met while studying on our Innovation Design Engineering MSc have developed a seaweed-based biodegradable alternative to plastic, which won a coveted EarthShot Prize in 2022.
Our graduates are valued as well-rounded engineers with the design skills to take on complex projects and create truly innovative solutions. Many take the entrepreneurial route, launching a start-up to bring their ideas to reality. Others go on to leading roles at leading companies in the tech sector and others. Recent graduates have gone on to work at Apple, Sony and Samsung.
