Spinouts are a key part of the developing innovation ecosystem at Imperial College London.

Imperial College London’s mission is to achieve enduring excellence in research and education in science, engineering, medicine and business for the benefit of society.

Alongside our world-class academic research and teaching, engagement with the commercial sector – and translating research into practice – is an essential part of that picture. Successful spinout companies enhance the College’s reputation, help to build clusters of commercial and translational experience, and expand the types of research and expertise at Imperial. They contribute to the economy, and create direct impact in the world.

Imperial Enterprise supports this vision by making it easier for Imperial academics to convert their research into spinouts, find funding, and grow them towards success. Our goal is to support your entrepreneurial goals and ambition and help you find the best way to realise them.

This support could come in the form of patent protection and licensing of new inventions into a spinout. It could be in identifying quality mentors and coaches to develop your skills. It could be support to undertake customer discovery in order to shape your business plan. It could be introductions to investors, or support to access translational funding streams. When you work with Imperial Enterprise to form a spinout, we’ll identify your needs and help you address them, with the aim of building spinouts that start well and thrive.

Our support infrastructure also includes the Imperial White City Incubator, where early-stage companies can spend those essential first few years developing – at the heart of an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship based around our White City Campus.

Imperial is committed to building for the long term: we aim to increase the number of spinouts created at the College, and to support them to grow the number of jobs supported, products launched, and long-term success of these companies.
