World Patient Safety Day 2019
The inaugural event brought together global thought-leaders, policymakers and the public to discuss the steps needed to improve patient safety. Attendees heard keynotes from Dr Aidan Fowler, National Director of Patient Safety, and Nadine Dorries MP – Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Mental Health, Suicide Prevention and Patient Safety. The speakers emphasised the need for prioritising patient safety on the global health agenda.
These views were echoed in the insightful panel discussions about the WHO’s Global Patient Safety Collaborative of which the PSTRC is a partner of. The PSTRC was pleased to host Dr Neelam Dhingra-Kumar of the WHO and Manoah Esipisu, the High Commissioner of Kenya to the UK during these talks.
At the conference, IGHI released its latest report on the state of patient safety worldwide. It emphasises the need for global actors to come together to tackle the safety of care. The report also urges the need for using standardised guidance and tools to ensure that efforts to address patient safety are collaborative.
