For the World Health Organization’s World Patient Safety Day 2023 theme of "Engaging patients for patient safety", the NIHR NWL PSRC, Institute of Global Health Innovation and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust hosted a virtual event to celebrate and elevate patient and family voices for patient safety.

The event aimed to facilitate impactful and insightful conversations about how key stakeholders can work together to empower patients with becoming advocates for their own safety to improve outcomes.

We heard from Professor the Lord Ara Darzi, Co-Director of the IGHI, Dr Henrietta Hughes, UK’s Patient Safety Commissioner, Rosie Bartel, a patient advocate, and Maria Caulfield, MP. We also held an excellent panel session on how clinicians, patients and carers can work together to support patients and their families to feel safe and engage with their care. 

The event was co-designed with patient representatives from the NIHR NWL PSRC and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
