To celebrate the first four years of the Dangoor Reach Out Makerspace, The Makerspace Manual: A  Guide to Bringing Ideas to Life has been created by staff, students, and alumni from Imperial, in partnership with the Berkeley Foundation.

The Makerspace Manual is a resource for teenagers, schools, teachers, educators, community groups, and makers. As well as documenting the history of the Dangoor Reach Out Makerspace, it provides suggestions for setting up your own makerspace – a space that you set aside for making and exploration, alongside ‘make it yourself’ projects for schools and community groups to make themselves.  

The Makerspace Manual is divided into five sections: 

• Getting started – Learn about different kinds of makerspaces, the tools and materials usually found in them, and how to stay safe while creating.
• Planning + designing – Learn how to think all the way through a project – from idea to creation – and how to visualise your project at early stages.
• Make it yourself – Look at makerspace projects for all levels, along with inspiration for group projects.
• Constructing your future – Learn more about the steps to building a business and promoting your invention.  
• Resources and contributors – Discover some of the doers, tinkerers, crafters, builders, supporters and donors who help engage students creatively in STEM at the Dangoor Reach Out Makerspace.

The Outreach team are delighted that the Makerspace Manual was selected and awarded a Bronze Award in the CASE Circle of Excellence awards – there were over 4500 entries, from over 630 institutions in 28 countries. More information about the award is available on the Circle of Excellence website.
