The Education Space Committee Committee is a sub-committee of the College Education and Student Experience Committee chaired by the Assistant Provost (Learning & Teaching). It makes recommendations to the Education and Student Experience Committee to implement business to support the enhancement of education spaces. The Committee provides the opportunity for students and staff to raise issues of particular concern or importance as they relate to education spaces. 

Terms of Reference

  • Inform the Learning & Teaching Education Strategy and align with the College Estates Strategy and ICT Strategy
  • Consider the impact of space on the academic experience
    • Work to ensure all students have access to appropriate spaces to learn and study
    • Work with the timetabling team to ensure that spaces are used most effectively
    • Consider the needs of undergraduate and postgraduate students on all College Campuses
    • Ensure space design incorporates EDI
  • Agree Education Space priorities
    • Suggest areas/buildings/rooms for investigation
    • Receive consultations and feasibility studies
    • Develop a consistent approach for prioritisation
  • Review funding proposals
    • Advise the VP S&E on allocation of the Learning and Teaching Strategy space budget
    • Support capital bids
    • Recommend projects for other funds (President’s Community Funds)
  • Agree Education Space minimum standards (not building standards) incorporating existing best practice AV, lighting and furniture
  • Receive and consider evaluations of renovated spaces
  • Ensure the alignment of works with other College projects and priorities
  • Ensure accessibility is designed in for all new builds and renovations
