elcome to the 2012 – 2013 edition of Business
Insights. I hope that you will find it an
interesting and rewarding read and that it will remind
you of your time at the Business School.
This summer was an amazing time to be in London.
The 2012 Olympics brought out the best of the city
and I believe the spirit of these Games share many of
the values of the School, its students and alumni.
One of the most wonderful achievements of the
Olympic movement was the bringing together of
different nations to share ideas and dreams.
I remember nearly twenty years ago how struck I
was by the international nature of the School, and
meeting current students you continue to see the
growth of high quality students from different parts of
the world. This year’s summer party was one of those
occasions. The evening was a lot of fun and gave the
chance to mingle with students, staff and old friends.
Clearly the School loves celebrating being world class
in many areas, but it is always looking for ways to
continue to strengthen its reputation and improve
programmes. We alumni, too, can look to do the
same. There are a wide range of resources available
from the School and I particularly recommend the
and the new
.
The 2012 Games were also remarkable for the
contribution of volunteers, and the School is no
different. I want to thank the alumni who in total
contributed over 2,200 hours to volunteering over
the last year in a variety of ways, from taking part
in information and panel sessions to providing
one-on-one support to prospective students. Your
support is invaluable to the continuing success of
the School.
The
also played its own
part with members meeting with two of the three
global accreditation bodies. We worked to show
how the connection between alumni and the School
is growing ever stronger and providing benefit and
mutual support to both parties.
There are many ways you can remain engaged with
the School and your fellow alumni, and I urge you to
think about what is the best way for you to give back
to the School, wherever you are in the world. I hope
this publication will inspire you to reconnect with
the School, your professional development options
and your extensive and thriving alumni network.
Finally, on behalf of the Alumni Advisory Board and, I
hope, all alumni, I would like to express our gratitude
to David Begg for his nine years as Principal of the
Business School, and I am certain that you will join
me in wishing him all the best for the future.
With all my best wishes,
Andrew Robertson
