Descriptive transcripts are needed by people who are deaf-blind and others.

Descriptive transcripts don’t have to be time consuming or expensive to make. You can use the captions and audio description that you already have.

The process for providing transcripts is:

  • Get a text version of the audio (Transcribing).
  • Format the transcript.
  • Put the transcript online, and make it easy for users to find the transcript from the audio or video file.

You can also outsource transcription to an expert company. We have previously used Rev to get professional-quality captions files (.srt files) that we can attach to videos for example to YouTube and social media (link to new social media page). This service costs about $1 per minute, so cost and time scales must be factored into any video project.
